Musical Light Display In Severna Park Prompts Some To Sing Along

SEVERNA PARK, MD — The holidays are a festive time of year and Jim Boney's musical Christmas display really picks up people's spirits. Boney and his daughter have created a music display together for the past five years with the last two years done at their home at 7 Woodbent Drive, Severna Park. "This year is our biggest display yet. My daughter and I have always done large light displays. Somewhere along the line it became a synchronized light show," Boney told Patch. The Christmas light show is paired with music played on 91.1 FM, Boney's own low-powered radio station. Boney said he begins programming the light show in July and starts putting up the lights in mid-September. "The programming is a lot of fun, which involves picking the songs and syncing the lights to the music. The actual assembly takes a few days and some long nights. I just assume the neighbors think I'm crazy when I'm out there at 10 p.m. in the cold clanging the ladder around the house like Clark Griswold," said Boney. Visitors to Boney's light display gush over how gorgeous it is. Last year, there was a group of young children loudly singing along with the Disney movie Frozen's hit song "Let It Go." "Some people have told me that they like the little story the show tells, especially the finale song," said Boney. The Woodbent Lights display can be seen Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. It will remain up through Jan. 5.
