YOUNGSTOWN, OH —The Youngstown State women's soccer program has announced that it has added Strongsville native Haley Curtis to its 2022 recruiting class as a transfer. Curtis, who graduated from Magnificat High School in Rocky River, is a defender who spent the first three years of her collegiate career at George Washington University. As a junior last fall, Curtis appeared in eight games for the Colonials (3-12-3 overall, 3-6-1 in the Atlantic 10), making six starts. In the abbreviated spring 2021 season — played after the fall 2020 campaign was postponed because of the pandemic —Curtis played in eight of 11 games and made four starts for GW, which went 6-4-1. Curtis will join a YSU Penguins team that went 2-11-5 overall, 2-5-4 in the Horizon League last season. "Haley brings an attacking presence in wide areas from the backline," Youngstown State coach Brian Shrum said. "She has the endurance to get up and down the field and the attacking mindset to help create opportunities to score. She will make an immediate impact in our backline." In high school, as a member of the Medina-based Internationals Soccer Club, Curtis helped her team reach the ECNL Playoffs for the North American Cup in 2016 and 2017, and she was recognized on the 2017-18 ECNL Ohio Valley Conference Players to Watch List.
