Watch Ospreys' New Baby Hatched In Severna Park

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — If residents haven't checked out the popular ospreys roosting in Severna Park, be sure to go online and view their newest addition. One of the four eggs hatched Tuesday and the new family can be seen via a live video feed. There are three more eggs left to hatch, said Sandy Arnette with Comcast. Severna Park residents and apprentice raptor rehabilitators Mark and Heather Jeweler are keeping tabs on the birds. This is the fifth year that the Jewelers have shared a glimpse of the ospreys for others to see via the live video feed. Baltimore Gas and Electric constructed the platform outside Severna Park High School and the internet connectivity is provided by Comcast Business. "Our nonprofit, Maryland Raptor Conservation Center, is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick, injured or orphaned birds of prey, and educating the public about them," said Heather Jeweler in a statement. "So, this nest cam is a great outreach to the community. Through the support of incredible partners like Comcast Business, BGE and HDOnTap, we're able to provide wildlife enthusiasts the opportunity to watch these amazing birds as they nest." In 2014, the ospreys lost their home on a light pole that was removed during the construction of Severna Park High School. When the ospreys returned the following spring to find their nest gone, they tried building a new one atop a construction crane, and later settled on a nearby live utility pole. The Jewelers had admired the nesting pair for years and reached out to form a partnership with BGE, Comcast Business and HDOnTap, giving the ospreys a long-term nesting location and providing a live stream from it.
