Mayor, Tony-Winner, Opera Highlight Spring Schedule At Maltz Center

CLEVELAND, OH —The Maltz Performing Arts Center at Case Western University has announced a spring schedule that has the theater's Director Jason Cohen buzzing. "The variety of music and culture presented at the Maltz Center this spring is unprecedented," Cohn said. The center, which is located in The Temple Tifereth-Israel, 1855 Ansel Rd., will feature: Baroque dance, bluegrass, literary lectures, jazz, classical piano and a ragtime orchestra, all in the theater's 1,200-seat Silver Hall auditorium. On Wednesday, Cleveland's first-year Mayor Justin Bibb, a Case Western graduate, will deliver his first State of the City address in Silver Hall. The address begins at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. Other highlights at the Maltz Center this spring, include: April 23: The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra continues its "Women in Jazz" season with "Mardi Gras gets the Gospel." The concert is rescheduled from Feb. 11.May 1: An Evening with Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody: The event will feature Patinkin, an Emmy and Tony award-winner, and Grody, his wife, in a Q&A style event.May 2: The Writers Center Stage will host Anthony Doerr: He's the author of New York Times bestseller "All The Light We Cannot See."May 8: Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra: The orchestra recreates the syncopated stylings of a bygone era and underscores classic silent films providing family-friendly entertainment. June 9-12: "The Sparks Fly Upward": This is a 2008 opera about three families —two Jewish, one Christian —during the Holocaust. Cathy Lesser Mansfield, a senior instructor at the Case Western Reserve School of Law, is the composer and librettist of the opera. This will be the Cleveland premiere of "Sparks."June 23: The Writers Stage will host author Isabel Wilkerson: She's a Pulitzer Prize-winning author whose latest book "Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents" was called "an instant American classic," by the New York Times.
