WEST VILLAGE, NY — Ahead of the 75th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier, multiple items of the legendary athlete will go on display in the West Village on Thursday. There will also be an auction that organizers say could end up netting the most expensive baseball jersey of all time. The bidding on a 1951 game-worn Brooklyn Dodgers home jersey will start at $2 million. The jersey would have to pass the $4.4 million mark, which is what a jersey worn by Babe Ruth during the 1920 season sold for in 2012. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bleecker Trading on 94 Christopher Street. The event will be hosted by Ken Goldin, a sports collectible trader who is starring in a soon to come out Netflix show. Along with the game-worn jersey, the display will include a bat that Robinson used during the 1949 All-Star Game in Brooklyn (starting bid: $250k), and a National Baseball Hall of Fame plaque that was presented to Robinson during his induction in 1962 (starting bid: $100K). The display will only be shown for a day. The 75th anniversary of Robinson breaking MLB's color barrier is on Friday.
