UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Two people were hospitalized early Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in a public housing residential building on the Upper West Side, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch. The blaze ignited at 80 Amsterdam Ave., between West 63rd and 64th streets, around 1:30 a.m., FDNY said. The fire was in an apartment on the 13th floor of the 13-story building. A total of 78 firefighters responded to the flames and placed it under control by 2:20 a.m., FDNY said. There were two patients transported to the nearby Mount Sinai West, but the FDNY spokesperson did not specify their condition or injuries. The spokesperson also did not add if they were firefighters or residents. It is not the first time this year that FDNY was called to 80 Amsterdam Ave., which is part of the Amsterdam Houses NYCHA complex. On Feb. 15, a man died after flames ignited on the fifth floor of the 13-story building.
