Soldier Stationed In AZ Sentenced For Child Porn, Death Threats

TUCSON, AZ — A Florida man and U.S. Army soldier who was stationed in Arizona was sentenced last week for five years in prison for possession of child porn and threatening to kill everyone involved in the program monitoring his computer use. Jahara William Byfield, 23, of Sunrise, Florida, previously pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and threatening to assault or murder a federal employee. After he completes his prison sentence, Byfield will be placed on supervised release for the remainder of his life. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and to complete a sex offender treatment program. Byfield was stationed at Fort Huachuca, outside of Tucson, for Army training when investigators in August 2020 found that he had searched for and found pictures and videos of young children engaging in sexually explicit conduct, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona. Byfield was placed on a computer monitoring program as a condition of his release from jail. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 3, 2020 to one count of possession of child pornography. On April 15, 2021, Byfield was accused of threatening to kill everyone involved in the computer monitoring program, according to the attorney's office. His release was then revoked and he was charged with threatening to assault or murder a federal employee, to which he also pleaded guilty on Dec. 20 2021.
