WADING RIVER, NY — A new store debuted recently at The Shoppes at East Wind in Wading River — and the owners are thrilled to welcome customers into the inviting space. Kim Gillin and Linda Vernillo, owners of Island Farmhouse, opened the new business on February 6 at the Shoppes, located at 5768 New York State Route 25A. Both from Shirley, the pair had a vision they've worked tirelessly to execute. "We wanted a cozy, warm farmhouse feel," they said. "We wanted customers to walk in and feel at home." The shop features all one-of-a-kind refinished furniture pieces, created by local artists. "We wanted customers to be able to envision the pieces of furniture in their own homes," Gillin and Vernillo said. Spotlighted in the shop are Gina from UndertheBleach tie dye apparel; Tammy Bishop from My Succulent Shop; local photography by Anthony Graziano; soy candles by Moore's Lights & Lathers; refinished furniture by Painted by Dede, Chalked by Court; and South Shore Custom Woodworking; and bracelets by Cometbrand, they said. Island Farmhouse features home decor and hand-painted and restored one-of-a-kind furniture. / Courtesy Kim Gillin and Linda Vernillo The first months in the space have been deeply rewarding, Gillin and Vernillo said. "We are so lucky to be in the East Wind Shoppes," they said."Everyone has welcomed us so nicely and really have given us so many warm wishes." Their vision for the shop was one of collaboration, they said. "We really wanted to have local artists that we'd met at craft fairs and vendor events that shared the same enthusiasm and creativity as us," they said. "We wanted to support local small business and have a home front for them to display their talent. Supporting businesses we've worked beside really fills our hearts — and makes us strive to keep our success growing." Island Farmhouse is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Courtesy Kim Gillin and Linda Vernillo.
