Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful to Welcome Governor Brian Kemp Back to the Environmental Address Podium at Gas South District Convention Center After Two-Year Hiatus Lawrenceville, Ga. – April 12, 2022 – After having to cancel its Governor’s Environmental Address two years in a row due to COVID-19, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and its support based of education, community and business leaders will have to wait a little longer for the 2022 Address. Originally planned for April 21, due to scheduling concerns, the event has been rescheduled to August 12 from 11:15 AM to 1 PM at the Gas South District Convention Center. Since its inception in 1980, Keep America Beautiful affiliate, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GC&B), has been honored to play host to four of Georgia’s Governors for its Governor’s Environmental Address. What began in 2000 with an appearance by former Governor Roy Barnes was last celebrated in October 2019 as the newly inaugurated Governor Kemp made his first appearance in at the Environmental Address podium. In August, he will speak about the state of Georgia’s environment and its impact on the local economy before a crowd of more than 600 leaders from across the state at the eco-focused nonprofit’s 14th Environmental Address – presented by Primerica. Prior to the new event date, sponsorships and tickets to attend the Address – which includes a catered lunch, scheduled speech from the Governor and an awards ceremony – are available for purchase on the Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful website. “COVID1-19 derailed many of our plans over the last two years, so we are thrilled, honored and hopeful to welcome Governor Kemp back to our podium,” said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “During his first Environmental Address appearance in 2019, he had a very optimistic outlook for the state – both economically and environmentally. Governor Kemp holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Georgia and was raised to believe that nature and everything in it are gifts from God. During his first speech, he made clear that the environment is an important matter to him, and he’s proving that fact with measures like his proposed program to connect farmers with families in need to battle food insecurity and reduce food waste. It’s a little like our own in-school Food Waste Warrior program on a state-wide scale. Governor Kemp was a big hit with our crowd two and a half years ago, so – barring any emergencies – we look forward to learning what he has to say about Georgia and the state of our environment when he joins us in August.” In addition to Kemp and Barnes, Georgia governors who have stood before the Environmental Address podium in the past include Sonny Perdue and Nathan Deal. The 2022 Governor’s Environmental Address will include the presentation of scholarships to Georgia Gwinnett College students, as well as Environmental Consciousness and Stewardship (ECoS) Awards to five worthy individuals, companies and organizations. The Gas South District Convention Center is located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
