Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates to become full time, 12-month Custodians. These are swing shift positions (2:30-11:00 p.m.) which will include a shift differential of 50 cents per hour! Initial training is provided. Excellent income potential from $14.04 – 18.17/hour with excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision, plus access to a free Wellness Clinic in downtown Springfield, and the opportunity for advancement. The primary function of this position is to provide custodial services and basic maintenance to ensure the upkeep, cleanliness and safety of school buildings and grounds for students, staff, and community members. Successful candidates will possess the following: 1. A strong desire to make a positive impact on students 2. Ability to work with staff and students in a supervisory, supportive and positive capacity 3. Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures 4. Strong, but appropriate, interpersonal and communications skill; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff and parents using tact, professionalism, courtesy, and good judgment, often in difficult and stressful situations 5. Ability to perform basic grounds keeping activities including, but not limited to, leaf collection, spreading top dressing (mulch, chips, shavings, etc.), snow and ice removal/abatement, walkway clearing, and drainage maintenance 6. Ability to perform routine maintenance and make minor repairs of custodial equipment, school doors, and minor painting repairs 7. Ability and commitment to practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity Example of job duties: • Complete appropriate log(s), forms and paperwork as required using a computer or pen/pencil • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to supervisor, lead custodian or to authorities as necessary, Including suspicious activity, animal danger, theft/vandalism, etc. • Assist in maintaining and cleaning HVAC systems, and modify utilizing technology support systems • Clean and sanitize areas (i.e. classrooms, halls, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuum, shampoo, sweep, scrub, wax, polish, and mop/buff all types of floor surfaces • Operate and maintain power equipment used in custodial work (side by side floor buffer, carpet extractors, vacuums, auto scrubber, backpack blowers and power washer) to ensure they work effectively and safely • Set up, take down and move tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other District functions as assigned • Wash, scrub, and disinfect restrooms as well as clean doors, door handles, sinks, fixtures, panels, and drinking fountains daily • Clean up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner • Respond to special requests for custodial services from staff members in a prompt and friendly manner Minimum Qualifications Education: • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) • Ability to obtain valid First Aid/CPR certification • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings and testing, SafeSchools modules and custodial trainings Bilingual/Bi-Cultural individuals are encouraged to apply NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: Custodians will be placed at the appropriate wage by Human Resources based upon education and experience, and become eligible for benefits upon date of hire.
