Description
Veda 5 month old Female Australian Cattle Dog / Red Healer (About 15lbs, may grow to be about 20-25lbs) Fully vaccinated and spayed *We are rehoming her because she is not a good fit for our family with small children. About Veda and what type of companion she needs: True to her breed she is very smart. She has learned how to walk on leash, sit, stay, wait, drop toy and is coming along nicely with house training. She is crate trained in the house and in the car. Walking on a leash she is responsive and is loyal. She loves people and is great with children but does like to “herd” them so young children would be difficult. True to her breed she wants to play “fun police” and will get excited with fast running and hyper play. She is not possessive or reactive with food or toys. She will need a human team mate that has a lot of time, energy and drive to put towards training and who is already active. She would do best with a work from home situation. She shouldn’t be left alone more than 3 hours in her crate. A house with a fenced in yard is best. She needs someone who knows or is willing to learn how to stimulate cattle dogs and how to make her feel like she has a job she is doing well. Cattle dogs are bred to herd and she has that drive. She may not love dog parks with a lot of fast running dogs, but will love to go and play fetch. She will be an awesome hiking, running, biking and roadtrip buddy. She enjoys short runs along side a bike and does well with this. She currently is in Puppy training class with other puppies. She has a fear of other dogs that needs to be worked with and shouldn’t be off leash until she gains that confidence. In puppy class she is doing well. She is amazing at the agility course as one would expect with a cattle dog. I would highly suggest enrolling her in agility classes, she would be the star. She learns new commands fast. Learning and following commands and using her smarty pants cattle dog brain will keep her happy. This is just as important as physical exercise. She needs a daily 30-40 min walk now but will need more exercise as she matures. At home she is playful and cuddly. She loves to play with her toys. She loves snuggles on the bed. When she is adopted we will provide documentation on the commands we have used and training tactics we find she responds well to. We love her dearly but with two young kids we simply don’t have the time needed to give her the proper training she needs to be a calm confident cattle dog. She would be the best companion for someone active, without little kids, works from home and has an interest in learning how to work with a cattle dog and the time to do it. She is extremely loyal and will want to be wherever you are in the house or yard. And she is always ready for a command. Rehoming fee is $550 (Our fee for her was $550, puppy classes $130, $100 worth of new toys, harness, leash and a $30 dog bed). We have had her less than 3 weeks so everything is new. We can give you all of her adoption papers. Serious inquiries only. If you are interested please answer following questions: Why do you think a cattle dog is a good fit for you? Have you done independent research on Australian Cattle Dogs? What types of work would you do with her for training and exercise? Do you own or rent? If you rent does your landlord approve a pet? How long would she be left alone in a house and how often? Do you have at least 2 hours each day to work with her training and exercise? Would you consider hiring a professional trainer and/or enrolling her in agility classes? Are you prepared to cover a large vet bill if there were to be a sudden need? Under what circumstances would you rehome a dog? What would you do if you could no longer have a dog because of living situations or other reasons outside of your control? Would you be willing to let us do a tour of your home before you adopt?
