GREENWICH, CT — Two men accused of illegally possessing fireworks were recently arrested, according to Greenwich police. Capt. Mark Zuccerella said the arrests were made following an investigation of an illegal fireworks display that occurred in Bible Street Park on the Fourth of July. Patrick Bria, 47, of Cos Cob, and Dominick Perri, 48, of Norwalk, were arrested Friday and charged with illegal possession of exploding fireworks. Both men turned themselves in at police headquarters, and police held active warrants for their arrests. On July 6, police detailed the incident in a lengthy Facebook post, which described the July 4 display as an "illegal and unlicensed ignition of professional-grade fireworks." According to the post, officers responded to the park after receiving a report of fireworks being unloaded from a truck and a group of nearly 300 people gathered there in anticipation of a display. The display consisted of two 4-foot-by-8-foot pieces of plywood with "professional aerial exploding fireworks," similar to ones used at town-sanctioned firework displays, connected to the boards, police said. Only about a quarter of the fireworks ignited and the others failed to do so because of a fuse failure, according to police. "The Greenwich Police Department takes incidents like this serious," Zuccerella said in an email Tuesday. "The amount of explosive fireworks coupled with the close proximity of homes posed a risk to the area. These devices are regulated by law for good reason."
