Camillo Honors Riverside Garden Club With Plaques

Information via Riverside Garden Club GREENWICH, CT — The Riverside Garden Club (RGC) was honored by First Selectman Fred Camillo during a ceremony at the Riverside Train Station on Dec. 1. Upon its formation, the club petitioned the New York and New Haven railroads for permission to beautify the Riverside Railroad Station. This was granted in 1920, according to a news release. The first selectman recognized RGC for 100 years of planting and maintaining gardens at Riverside Train Station, which was commemorated by two plaques. The gardens cover both the south and north sides of the train station and now include a Pollinator Garden, Japanese Garden and Native Garden. The recent enhancements to the gardens were made possible by a donation from the Heuer Foundation. The RGC is among the ten oldest garden clubs in New England and was founded back in 1919 with a key goal being to support the beautification of Riverside and the greater Greenwich community. "The work the RGC does by creating beautiful gardens in our town, especially in these difficult and challenging times, is very much appreciated," Camillo said in a news release. "I look forward to their continued contributions to our community."
