ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County residents have until Tuesday, Oct. 13 to register to vote in the 2020 presidential election. They can register to vote by visiting this website or by mailing an application to the state or county board of elections. Applications must be postmarked by 9 p.m. For those who miss the deadline: Maryland offers same-day voter registration at the polls. Here's what else residents to need to know about registering to vote: Important Dates Early voting starts Monday, Oct. 26 and ends Monday, Nov. 2Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3Officials must receive mail-in ballot requests by Oct. 20 (leave five businesses days for USPS to deliver the request) Lookup Voter Registration Status Unsure if you're registered to vote? Visit the State Board of Election's voter portal. The website is updated daily. If you submitted information online or at the MVA, it may take up to three weeks to appear in the database. How To Register To Vote You can mail your Voter Registration Application to the State Board of Elections (see address) or to Montgomery County's Board of Elections. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the Voter Registration Application form. Election officials recommend that you fill out the form directly from Adobe Acrobat Reader and then print and sign it. Do not fax or e-mail your Voter Registration Application. Applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, Oct. 13. You can also register to vote online. The deadline is also Tuesday, Oct. 13. If you miss the deadline, you can register to vote during early voting or on Election Day. To register to vote, you must be: A U.S. citizen;A Maryland resident; andAt least 16 years old * You cannot have been: Convicted of buying or selling votes;Under guardianship for mental disability and found by a court to be unable to communicate a desire to vote; orAre in jail for a felony conviction * You may register to vote if you are at least 16 years old but cannot vote unless you will be at least 18 years old by the next general election.
