CLIPPER ROUND THE WORLD YACHT RACE - RETURNING TO SEATTLE The CLIPPER ROUND THE WORLD YACHT RACE is the only global circumnavigation raced by crew from diverse walks of life and nations from around the world. Competing professionally on the world's largest matched fleet of ocean racing yachts, people choose to participate on one or more legs of the full eleven-month endurance challenge. Having crossed the 6,100nm North Pacific enduring everything Mother Nature can throw at them, the fleet is arriving at Seattle's Bell Harbor Marina and looking forward to a warm Seattle welcome. GREET THE FLEET: ETA: 21-24 APRIL 2022** The fleet of Clipper 70 yachts are expected to arrive at Bell Harbor Marina, Alaskan Way, Seattle between 21-24 April after a gruelling 6,100nm race over 30 days and nights from the Philippines. For the majority of this time, the crew are closer to the International Space Station than to inhabited land. Best viewed from the boardwalk you can experience the atmosphere as Race Crew step back on land after a thrilling race across the world’s most furious ocean. ** ETA may vary due to race conditions at sea, and may arrive overnight. FOLLOW THE FLEET INTO SEATTLE RACE CREW STOPOVER IN SEATTLE: More than 150 Race Crew from diverse walks of life, all age groups and more than 40 nations around the world will be arriving in Seattle. Many will continue on with this marathon ocean race of more than 40,000nm, joined by others in Seattle. Celebrations Some race for greatness and some race to win but everyone receives a hero's welcome on arrival into port. It is the arrival of the final team that makes all the race crew feel most proud, and at the end of each leg of the race, the crew celebrate with a prize-giving event. The three first teams of the race into Seattle score the highest points which are added to their overall standing in the race. Repairs and Maintenance While in Bell Harbor you will see them working on their yachts conducting essential maintenance to the rigging and below deck, and repairs - in particular sail repairs - that could not be handled on board. As well as replenishing fresh water supplies, members of the crew will be stocking up with fresh fruit, vegetables and protein to sustain them during the next leg of the race. Crew can use up to 5,000 calories a day while racing and will need three or four nutritious cooked meals a day, sourced from local markets in Seattle. Race Partners get involved Race Partners conduct product testing, scientific or other research onboard the yachts which race in parts of the ocean that are inaccessible to most other vessels. While in port they can collect data, check equipment and get feedback from the Race Crew and Skippers which is used to improve technical performance for commercial use. Dell Rugged is one of the partners using the Clipper Race to further improve product performance: read more here. Rest and Recuperation After the hard work, the crew will have time to relax with friends and family who might have traveled to Seattle from the other side of the world to support them. This is a time to visit the best Seattle has to offer, see the sights, stay in comfort at local hotels, enjoy the best local food etc, and participate in locally organized events to support causes that are meaningful to them.
