TOMS RIVER, NJ — Bed Bath & Beyond has announced it is closing its Toms River location, one of 200 stores the company is shutting down. The closure, announced on the webpage for the Toms River location, does not give a final closure date for the store on Hooper Avenue but says clearance sales are underway. The plan to close the stores was announced in September. Bed Bath & Beyond CEO Mark Tritton previously indicated that closing the locations — about 20 percent of its stores — would spare the brand between $250 and $350 million annually after one-time costs, USA Today reported in September. The negative economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic were "felt across our business during our fiscal first quarter, including loss of sales due to temporary store closures," Tritton said. "As we rebuild our authority and establish a truly omni-always shopping experience for our customers, we recently announced a store optimization plan that will see us establish the right network of stores to serve our customers," spokeswoman Jessica Joyce told USA Today. The Howell location is closing as well, but the stores in Brick and Manahawkin appear to be remaining open.
