TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man received a ticket for careless driving after his car crashed into a utility pole on Fischer Boulevard early Thursday, Toms River police said.
Richard Wisniewski, 55, of Toms River, was driving south on Fischer Boulevard in the right lane when his car hit the curb just south of Matso Drive, then hit a fire hydrant, a street sign, and finally a utility pole, where it came to a stop, said Jillian Messina, media specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
The crash brought the utility pole down onto the road, forcing police to close Fischer Boulevard to traffic between Matso Drive and Golden Drive for more than six hours while the pole was removed and replaced.
Wisniewski was checked by Toms River EMS but refused further medical attention, Messina said.
Toms River Police Officer Dan Burke is investigating.
