Description

MEM SAB Communication Workshop - a 2 day workshop for MEM students, focusing on skills necessary for success within the professional world MEM Student Advisory Board Communication WorkshopMEM Student Advisory Board (SAB) is organizing a 2 day communication workshop for MEM students. This workshop focuses on the development of presentation skills necessary for success within the professional world. It goes without saying that organizations need employees who project confidence, clarity, and professional presence. Unfortunately, many talented graduate students have inadequate training in effective strategies for communicating information. As a result, some of the otherwise best students face unnecessary obstacles. Through short group lectures and one-on-one coaching, each student will receive personalized attention tailored to the realities of professional clinical and research practice that goes far beyond the basics offered in more general public speaking course offerings. Primary focus will be on job talks and paper/project presentations, but all aspects of professional behavior, communication, and conduct (the so called “soft skills and EQ”) will be addressed as needed. Objectives Participants will leave the course/workshop with increased skills in Non-verbal body language and the performance of selfCritical listening and storytellingAudience analysisStructuring a clear message through visual designAwareness of physical and vocal qualitiesProviding constructive feedback Avoiding and overcoming nervousnessThinking on your feetDay 1: April 15, 2022 (Friday) 5 PM to 8 PM Day 2: May 6, 2022 (Friday) 5 PM to 7 PM Venue: McCormick Education Center - Krebs Classroom Instructor: Prof. Daniel Moser, PhD Dr. Moser specializes in the art and science of communications training for professionals in medical, business, engineering, finance, design, and advanced technical fields.
