TOMS RIVER, NJ — Teens and new drivers seeking to get their first driver's license will have to go out of Ocean County to get it for the next few weeks after the Toms River licensing center shut down on Tuesday. The center shut down due to an employee testing positive for the coronavirus. The state Motor Vehicle Commission announced the closure Tuesday, and said the Toms River office will not reopen until Dec. 22. The Toms River office is the only licensing center in Ocean County; the Lakewood and Manahawkin offices handle vehicle registrations. The Eatontown and Freehold licensing centers also are closed due to employees testing positive for the coronavirus. A list of licensing offices is available on the state motor vehicles website. The list shows which offices still have availability for daily appointments. Have a friend who loves staying on top of what's happening in Toms River? Invite them via email!
