SEASIDE PARK, NJ — A 17-year-old has been charged with robbery and attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Seaside Park on Tuesday that injured one person, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday. One person was injured in the shooting, which happened about 11:45 a.m. in the area of I Street, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. While police were at I Street talking to witnesses who reported the shooting, a white BMW pulled up to a marked Seaside Heights Police vehicle and told police one of the passengers was the victim of the shooting, Billhimer said. The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, treated for injuries, and released, he said. Billhimer did not provide any information about the victim's age, gender or hometown, and did not provide gender or hometown of the 17-year-old who has been charged. The 17-year-old was identified as the shooter following an investigation by the Major Crime Unit of the prosecutor's office, the Seaside Park and Seaside Heights police departments and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, he said. A warrant for the teen's arrest was executed by the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, and the teen was taken into custody without incident, Billhimer said. The teen has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon and is being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center in Toms River, he said. "All the officers involved in this investigation worked at breakneck speed to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for this senseless act of violence, for which I am extremely grateful," Billhimer said. "As I have stated on numerous occasions, this unbridled lawlessness — whether perpetrated by an adult or a juvenile — will not be tolerated in Ocean County."
