"Nature and Architecture: Making Medieval Granada"
Dede Fairchild Ruggles holds affiliated appointments in Art History, Architecture, Medieval Studies, Spanish & Portuguese Studies, Gender & Women's Studies, Women & Gender in Global Perspectives, the Center for South Asian and Middle East Studies, and the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory. She has held grants and fellowships from the National Gallery of Art, Dumbarton Oaks, the Getty and NEH, among others. She is the author of two award-winning books on Islamic landscape history (Gardens, Landscape and Vision in the Palaces of Islamic Spain, 2000; and Islamic Gardens and Landscapes, 2007) as well as eleven other authored, edited and co-edited volumes on landscape history, cultural heritage, women's arts patronage and Islamic art and architectural history. Her talk for the KAM Council reflects her current project which looks at the architecture and the environment of Granada and the Alhambra.
