Description

A program hosted by the Literary Department at Mississippi School of the Arts celebrating senior writers and their definitive works. Bios of Featured Senior Literaries: Taylor Lafayette of Benoit, MS, is an award-winning Mississippi writer whose work shines light on black southern life and culture. She feels called to write about the topics of black love, femininity, and family in the forms of poetry and plays. Her play Salted Lemonade was selected for the 2022 “Enough: Plays to End Gun Violence” competition, earning a production at the Lincoln Center in New York and a publication in Playscripts, Inc. Sydney Knotts of Soso, MS, is an accomplished literary artist who intends to continue her career in creative writing at the University of Iowa. She has been featured in the national publication Detour Ahead, and her works have received thirty-two acknowledgements, including awards from the New York Times, National Scholastic Writing Awards, Best of MS literary magazine, and Mississippi Theatre Association. She hopes to continue evolving into a versatile, vulnerable author who creates spaces for people to both lose and find themselves in. In her free time, she drowns herself in film, music, and pictures of her nephew.
