'Look At This Beast': Large Gator Missing Foot Crosses Busy FL Road

VENICE, FL — A Venice man was shocked when he saw a large alligator missing its front left foot crossing a busy road and immediately started filming with his phone. "Look at this beast," Daniel Jay Kaufman can be heard saying in the video. "It's like a 10-footer. Holy cow." In the video, which he shared to Facebook on April 7 and has been shared more than 12,000 times, the gator can be seen stopping traffic briefly and barely avoiding being hit by a truck. The reptile then went under his truck, moving it. Watch the gator crossing the road below: Alligator courtship starts in early April, and mating takes place in May or June, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The females then build a nest and lay their eggs in late June or early July.
