MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Bridgeport, Connecticut man with a loaded weapon led police on an unexpected tour of Mount Vernon barber shops, according to officials. On Saturday, shortly after 5 p.m., the Mount Vernon Police Department received a call about a man with a handgun inside of a barber shop on the 100 block of 4th Ave. Patrol officers located a man inside of the barber shop matching the description given. The officers approached the man, who was later identified as Ricardo Hanchard, but as they attempted to speak with him, he fled from the shop onto the street. The officers chasing the 33-year-old saw him attempting to grab an object in his waistband, according to a police report. Hanchard ran inside of a different barber shop and made his way to the rear of the business with officers close behind. Police found Hanchard hiding in a restroom in the rear of the barber shop and after a brief struggle, were able to handcuff him. In the bathroom, officers recovered the loaded handgun and found that Hanchard was also wearing a holster. Mount Vernon police officers said they were assisted by members of the Westchester County Police Department. Hanchard, who has a prior arrest in New York for robbery, was held in Mount Vernon City Jail and was scheduled to be arraigned on felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon, on Monday afternoon.
