Catalytic Converters Stolen From 16 Trumbull School Vans: Police

TRUMBULL, CT — Catalytic converters from 16 van-style Trumbull school buses were cut from underneath the vehicles and stolen sometime over the weekend, according to Trumbull police, who are investigating the thefts. The vehicles were parked at the Durham School Services lot on Spring Hill Road, and officials reported the thefts on Monday morning. Police estimate the total reported loss from the thefts is more than $40,000. Last fall, $75,000 worth of catalytic converters were reported stolen from Trumbull's Cooperative Educational Service School. "The Trumbull Police are actively investigating these thefts and other similar thefts that have occurred recently, and are working in collaboration with neighboring police agencies to share information to solve these crimes that tend to occur during the overnight hours," Trumbull Police Lt. Brian Weir said in a statement. The thefts led to Trumbull Public Schools alerting parents that some would have to make other arrangements to get their children to school on Monday, the Connecticut Post reported. The Trumbull Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding the suspects responsible for the thefts.
