HAUPPAUGE, NY — A Queens man sped away from officers investigating drag racing in Hauppauge on Sunday afternoon and was later slapped with charges of reckless driving and unlawfully fleeing a police officer, Suffolk police said. Officers from the 4th Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting cars racing on Commerce Drive at about 3:30 p.m. and when they activated the lights and sirens on their vehicles, beginning a traffic stop, they found Michael Beyer in a 2014 Nissan 370Z Coupe next to a second vehicle "preparing to race," police said. Beyer sped away, police said, adding that the car was "weaving in and out of traffic before stopping on Commerce Drive, near Moreland Road." Beyer, 26, of Glendale was charged with third-degree reckless driving and unlawfully fleeing an officer, police said. The Nissan was impounded and Beyer was released on a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on April 29, according to police.
