Press release from Belmont Public Schools: April 11, 2022 The Foundation for Belmont Education (FBE) is pleased to announce and summarize grants that were recently approved for the 2021-2022 academic year. Attached is a summary of seven new grants totaling $21,400. We are very grateful for the generous community support the FBE receives that enables us to provide this well-deserved support for Belmont Public Schools. LEARNING EXCELLENCE GRANTS Jessica DeFrances All Elementary Digging Deep in Fractional Concepts using Multi-Sensory Techniques to purchase additional math manipulatives for all elementary 4th grade classes to use in small group instruction that builds conceptual understanding of computation with mixed numbers Mathematics $1,030 Deborah McDevitt, Rebecca Silver Chenery Grade 7 Culturally Responsive Classroom Grant - the Caribbean and Asia to purchase book and puzzles to better include diverse voices and learning styles in the Grade 7 World Geography Caribbean and Asia units Social Studies $2,612 Vanessa Bullard, Jonathan Marks Chenery Modeling DNA / RNA with MIT's Edgerton Center Kits to purchase Model DNA and RNA kits for the Grade 8 Science Curriculum Science $2,400 Victoria D'Annunzio, Mari Brito Chenery Middle School Free Voluntary Reading Library to purchase books to set up a library so seventh-grade students in World Language classes can access a variety of engaging books they can read during Free Voluntary Reading time World Language $3,898 Marnie Wolfe, Jacqueline Duane Butler Intervention is a WIN to fund additional paired texts to support the comprehension needs of grade 2 students to bolster their discussions and awareness of text structure, as well as building content knowledge ELA $2,740 INNOVATIVE TEACHING INITIATIVE GRANT Kathryn McLeod Belmont High School Belmont Attends the Computer Science Teachers Association Annual Conference to fund the registration fee for the Belmont High School computer science teacher to attend the Computer Science Teachers Association annual conference, which runs from July 14-July 17 in Chicago Science $325 Elizabeth Baker Chenery Middle School OpenSciEd Training and Materials for Grades 7 & 8 to fund a consultant to bring in- depth training for one OpenSciEd unit for both 7th and/or 8th grade teachers and to pay for teacher materials Science $8,395 This press release was produced by Belmont Public Schools.
