Description

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Several attempted and completed thefts involving cars took place in North Haven over the last few days, police said. On Friday, a gray Honda was stolen from a home on Christine Road, police said. The victim told officers they had left the car unlocked with keys inside of it. The next day, that Honda was spotted at the Best Western Hotel on Washington Avenue, where suspects got out of it and burglarized "at least one other car," taking a purse that was left in plain sight, police said. Police said the suspects then drove to a gas station on Washington Avenue where they tried to steal another car, but its owner confronted them. At the same time, suspects in a different Honda took a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked at the Best Buy on Universal Drive, police said. They fled the parking lot and officers tried to stop their car near Dixwell Avenue, but they refused to stop. Soon after, the same car was involved in a similar theft in Milford, police said, after which the car returned to North Haven. Officers tried to stop the car again on Washington Avenue, but the suspects engaged them in pursuit, police said. Police didn't chase the car since the crimes weren't violent, officers said (per state policy, police cannot engage suspects in a pursuit for crimes that aren't violent).
