WOODBRIDGE, VA — A temporary teacher who worked at Benita Fitzgerald Elementary School was arrested on Friday. Officers claimed that the teacher, Eman Mohammed Alkindi, slapped an 8-year-old boy in a classroom on Thursday. The incident occurred while the 8-year-old student was in a classroom with Alkindi and other staff members. Investigators with the Prince William County Police Department and Child Protective Services said the boy became upset. The upset child then spat at Alkindi, police said. She then walked up to the child, smacked him, and walked out of the classroom, according to the police report. The other staff members who saw the slap reported the assault to school administrators, who notified authorities. On Friday, after their investigation, officers arrested Alkindi. Alkindi, who police identified as a 44-year-old woman from Woodbridge, is charged with one count of assault and battery. A court date is pending, and Alkindi was released on a court summons. The Virginia Department of Social Services operates a hotline where witnesses can report child abuse. The CPS hotline can be reached at 804-786-8536. Additional resources to help victims of child abuse is available online.
