Carteret Earth Day Festival Will Be April 23

CARTERET, NJ — All are welcome at Carteret's annual Earth Day Celebration on April 23. The festival will go from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Carteret's Civic Center Park on Pershing Avenue. Family fun will include an interactive performance by kid-friendly, environmentally-minded band Trashaganza, a bounce house and an ice cream truck. A free package of tree seeds will also be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to orough youth. Sign-up sheets will be available for Carteret's annual Tree Planting Program. In response to New Jersey's statewide ban on all single-use plastic bags — which goes into effect May 4 — Carteret will be giving away three free reusable bags to every household at the festival. The bags were paid for with a Middlesex County Recycling Grant and a Clean Communities NJ Grant. "We wanted to provide all our residents with free reusable bags so they easily will be able to comply with the state's May 4th plastic bag ban," said Mayor Dan Reiman. "In the town colors of blue and white, the bags are very sturdy and will enable shoppers to use them for quite a while.
