Hosanna School Museum Hosting 2022 Juneteenth Festival

DARLINGTON, MD — The Hosanna School Museum is celebrating Juneteenth with a concert and festival at its campus on Castleton Road. Juneteenth is a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates history, culture and achievement of African-Americans. Sponsored in part by the Harford County Public Library, Harford County Government and Visit Harford, the Upper Bay Juneteenth Festival is slated for Saturday, June 18. The event in Harford County is billed as the longest running Juneteenth celebration in the Lower Susquehanna and Upper Chesapeake Bay regions, organizers at the Hosanna School Museum say. While the Hosanna School Museum functions as a schoolhouse museum, it operated as a church and community meeting place in the 19th century and was used as a schoolhouse until 1946. At the Juneteenth festival at the Hosanna School Museum, a "Transition to Freedom" concert will take place at 4:30 p.m., with Rhema Praise performing, officials say. Music, dance, lectures, vendors, horse rides, a puppet show, crafts, buffalo soldier re-enactors, a genealogy workshop, book signings and other activities are planned as part of the festival as well. The Upper Bay Juneteenth Festival will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the Hosanna School Museum, 2424 Castleton Road, Darlington, MD 21034. Admission will be $18.65, in recognition of Juneteenth falling on June 19, 1865.
