LONG VALLEY, NJ — Thirty-thousand participants will cross the starting line April 18 at the 2022 Boston Marathon. And one is a Long Valley resident. For the first time since 2019, the Boston Marathon will take place on Patriots' Day — a Massachusetts holiday commemorating the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War. The day begins with military marchers at 6 a.m., with several waves of athletes beginning the race in Hopkinton throughout the morning. Long Valley will be represented by Micheal Hodgetts, 56. He will be released in Wave 3 from Corral 1 wearing Bib no. 16774. Former West Morris Regional School District board of education representative James Button from Mendham is running in Wave 3 from Corral 3 wearing Bib No. 18852 as well as County College of Morris Professor Mark Washburne will be running in Wave 3 from Corral 7 wearing Bib No. 22795. There are several ways to track participants on race day: Download the Boston Athletic Association's racing app, which is free on iPhone and Android devices.Follow along on the B.A.A. website, which will change April 18 to allow people to track runners on race day.Sign up for AT&T text alerts, which will text you when your favorite athlete reaches certain race milestones and crosses the finish line on Boylston Street in Boston.
