OAK FOREST, IL — The South Suburban Humane Society will offer half off of adoption fees in partnership with the North Shore Animal League through this weekend, officials announced.
Starting Wednesday and running through Saturday, April 16, the adoption event will sponsor 50 percent off for all animals over six months old.
While the animal shelter is closed Easter Sunday in addition to Monday and Tuesday, interested pet owners can come and view animals at both the Chicago Heights and Homewood locations Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
Recently, SSHS waived adoption fees on larger dogs due to an influx of animals coming into the shelter. According to a spokeswoman for the shelter, both locations were at "maximum capacity."
The event is a further effort to reduce the amount of cats and dogs within the no-kill shelter. In addition to both south suburban and North Shore leagues teaming up, Rachael Ray's Nutrish dog food brand is hosting the Tour For Life which will offer the same discounted fees at shelters all over the country.
Tour for Life 2022 is partnering with shelters and other rescue groups in 37 states and 53 cities. A full list of participating shelters can be found here.
