Description

Press release from the Missoula County Government: April 8, 2022 After receiving hundreds of comments at their public hearings this past month, the Missoula Consolidated Planning Board on March 15 unanimously recommended approval of the code. Missoula Community Planning and Services staff has since adjusted the code based on the feedback and released the updated draft April 7. Missoula County encourages the public to continue to submit comments, which will be part of the public process until the commissioners adopt the code. "We are encouraged by the level of public engagement and community feedback this project has received," Commissioner Juanita Vero said. "And it's inspirational to see the hard work of staff and the community come to fruition with a zoning code that addresses current needs and accommodates future growth." The goal of the zoning update, which would apply to the Missoula urban area outside city limits, including in Bonner, East Missoula and the Wye, is to improve quality of life and address the issues the community currently faces. Staff have worked diligently to ensure the code represents steps forward for resource protection, sustainability and housing availability compared with the original 1976 code. Though the commissioners' public meeting is the final step in the update process, feedback and comments on the Missoula County Zoning Regulations are always welcome. People can provide public comment on the website or by calling 406-258-4651. Senior Planner Andrew Hagemeier is available for media inquiries at [email protected].
