Press release from Kansas City Water: April 11, 2022 (Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water responded to a wastewater overflow near 2800 Clay Edwards Drive at 5:00 p.m. on April 7, 2022 where crews found a blocked sewer main and a manhole overflowing. Wastewater surfaced and entered into Rock Creek which leads to the Missouri River. Repair crews are on site to remove the blockage from a 12-inch sewer main and lime will be applied to the affected area. Signs will be posted near Rock Creek alerting the public of the overflow and to avoid the area. Buried underneath the streets of Kansas City are nearly 2,800 miles of sewer pipes hidden from view but serving an important purpose: to move whatever goes down the drain or toilet away from our homes and businesses to the City's six wastewater treatment plants. There, pollutants are removed from the water before it is put back into our local rivers. Our wastewater systems protect public health and our environment, and some of the pipes are 50, 100, even 150 years old and still in use today.
