PERRY HALL, MD — A cat stuck in a precarious spot for more than one day was rescued in an hour by a crew from the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company, officials reported Thursday. Saving the feline started with a Facebook post.
"One of our volunteers who lives in Honeygo Village saw an online post seeking help with how to rescue their cat that was stuck behind a water heater and HVAC unit for over a day," the fire company reported.
"The volunteer offered to help and walked to the house to assess the situation," officials said.
After an unsuccessful attempt to use fishing net and without any direct access to the pet, the volunteer called for backup.
Engine 201 provided a new perspective and after trying some other methods, the crew decided to disconnect an HVAC duct in a crawl space. That measure "allowed the cat just enough space to escape," the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company reported.
After reconnecting the duct and taping it back up, crews cleared the scene.
"Total time to rescue and clear the scene was about one hour," said officials.
