UPDATE: Person At Jefferson School In Summit Has Coronavirus

SUMMIT, NJ — The superintendent of the Summit schools said in a letter Tuesday that a person at Jefferson Elementary School tested positive for coronavirus, the district confirmed on Wednesday. They said that an earlier news report that the person was a student was incorrect, but they could not clarify whether the person was a staffer or what the person's role was at the school. The beginning of an internal letter from the superintendent said, in part: "We are writing to inform you that the district has been notified of a positive COVID-19 case at Jefferson Elementary School. After a thorough investigation, officials from the Department of Health say no close contacts at school were established in this case. We learned that this individual has been under quarantine after being identified as a close contact to an outside positive case. While under quarantine, the individual tested positive for COVID-19. Health officials did not recommend closing any classrooms, programs, or schools." There have been four previous cases in Summit of students with the virus, the district confirmed.
