TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society announced a branding change this week with respect to its name, which has been unchanged since its creation in 1966. Executive Director Will Hawkins said on Monday that the organization's name will now be Historic Tuscaloosa, as the nonprofit organization hopes to further develop awareness of the historical and cultural heritage of Tuscaloosa. "Many cities that have deep historical roots with active organizations that preserve their histories have made similar name changes," he said, before citing Historic Charleston and Historic Natchez. Historic Tuscaloosa manages five different historic properties, including: the Old Tavern, the Battle-Friedman House, the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion, the McGuire-Strickland House, and the Murphy African-American Museum. Other than the name change, Hawkins said the organization's logo will remain the same Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
