WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester cannabis retailer expanded its new delivery service this week, offering recreational customers in a wide area around the city the chance to buy marijuana without leaving home. Major Bloom launched its cannabis delivery program last week, but over the weekend expanded to full-time delivery hours between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. The delivery service is in addition to the store's normal retail hours in Worcester's Canal District. Over the first week of delivery, Major Bloom cofounder Ulysses Youngblood said customers were mostly buying marijuana flower products as opposed to edibles. That's in part due to lower prices at Major Bloom, he said. Delivery customers do have to spend $100 minimum, plus a $10 delivery fee — although anyone who spends over $300 gets free delivery. Cannabis delivery for recreational consumers is a new program from the state Cannabis Control Commission. The first companies to offer delivery began last summer under new licensing rules. The state allows businesses to operate as couriers between stores and customers, but also allows existing stores to get licensed to deliver products. Delivery services can also buy products from stores, keep them in storage and deliver as needed. The state has strict rules for delivery drivers. Delivery transactions get recorded on video, and drivers are required to keep a GPS tracker on, and have a secure storage area in a vehicle. Major Bloom will operate two delivery vehicles to start, and Youngblood estimated the store will be able to make up to 50 deliveries per day. The company can deliver in a 20-mile radius outside Worcester, as long as a town does not have a ban on cannabis deliveries. Major Bloom opened for retail business on Aug. 13 along Millbury Street, and was Worcester's second economic empowerment equity program cannabis store.
