SUMMIT, NJ — While a Democratic and Republican candidate are vying for the 1st Ward Common Council seat in Summit on Nov. 3, incumbent Council President Marjorie Fox is running unopposed for the 2nd Ward seat. Earlier in the summer, her opponent, Republican Kirsten McCumber, left the race. "In mid-July, Kirsten suspended her Common Council campaign for personal reasons," said Summit Republican Chairman Steven Spurr. "We are grateful for her hard work on the campaign trail — especially her tireless advocacy for Summit's small business community in such turbulent times." The Summit Common Council consists of seven members. Each of the two wards has three representatives, and one member serves "at large." The ward seats carry three-year terms; the at-large seat is two years. On Oct. 3, the League of Women Voters will host a virtual forum featuring 1st Ward candidates incumbent Councilmember Susan Hairston (a Democrat) and Eileen Kelly (a Republican).
