NOTTINGHAM, MD — The Bed Bath & Beyond in Nottingham Square is closing.
Due to the closure, 27 employees at the store on Campbell Boulevard will lose their jobs, according to a notice filed Tuesday with the Maryland Department of Labor.
Over the past two years, the housewares chain has closed stores in waves and streamlined its footprint.
In September, the company reported three Maryland stores would shutter by Dec. 31:
Gaithersburg: 558 N. Frederick AvenueHanover: 7000 Arundel Mills CircleSalisbury: 2653 N. Salisbury Boulevard One other store in Baltimore County has shuttered. The Owings Mills Bed Bath & Beyond closed this time last year when its lease expired.
In an earnings call in October 2019, Bed Bath & Beyond reported more than 400 leases would be expiring in the next couple of years, which would be a factor in closures.
The company's goal is to "simplify our portfolio, unlock the potential of our business and extend our authority in the Home, Baby, Beauty and Wellness markets," President/CEO Mark Tritton said in a statement last week, when Bed Bath & Beyond sold its Christmas Tree Shops retail banner.
Founded in 1971, the company that specializes in home goods still has 18 stores open in Maryland and more than 1,000 nationwide:
