The Avenue At White Marsh Decides On Tree Lighting, Parade

WHITE MARSH, MD —The Avenue at White Marsh is turning some of its holiday traditions into virtual affairs this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Traditionally, Santa arrives in late November to light up the tree at the open-air shopping center. Because gatherings are restricted to prevent the spread of the virus, organizers say they are taking the festivities online. "Lining the streets with thousands of people in celebration as we light our magnificent tree, along with cheering from the sidelines as we come together to watch our holiday parade, will not be permitted or appropriate in today's environment," organizers said. "It is with heavy hearts that we accept THE AVENUE at White Marsh 23rd Annual Tree Lighting will be virtual and our 22nd White Marsh Holiday Parade will be postponed until December 2021," officials said in a statement Wednesday, Nov. 11. The Avenue will share the tree lighting through its Facebook and Instagram accounts. "Although things may be a little different, we look forward to being a part of your 2020 holiday magic moments and finding new ways to spread holiday cheer," The Avenue said in a statement. "Better times lie ahead… and we will be ready to celebrate big when the time is right!" Officials said the ice rink would open in November.
