EAST HAVEN, CT — To help slow the spread of coronavirus in East Haven, the town will be giving out free masks Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The drive-through mask giveaway at East Haven High School was announced by Mayor Joseph A. Carfora. Emergency Management director Matt Marcarelli and Medical Reserve Corps volunteers through the East Shore District Health Department will be on hand to greet residents in their cars and provide them with masks, free of charge. In a news release, Carfora said that while East Haven has had generally low numbers of Covid-19 cases throughout the summer, similar to other towns across the state, it's also seen a recent uptick in cases. Carfora said East Shore District Health Department, East Haven public schools and the town are, "Working together to continue to keep residents safe and slow the spread of the virus and ensure that any positive cases of Covid-19 are isolated and any significant contacts are placed into quarantined." "A key component of keeping our residents safe during this pandemic is through contact tracing, and we ask all residents to please cooperate if they are asked to quarantine for 14 days," Carfora added as he reminded residents to "please do their part" by practicing social distancing and wearing face coverings, "as they are crucial in helping to reduce the spread of the virus and limit the number of people who are infected."
