EAST HAVEN, CT —As of late Monday afternoon, East Haven schools has 18 positive coronavirus cases and 161 students and staff are in quarantine because of possible exposure to the virus. But based on information received by Patch, that number will likely increase Tuesday.
And in fact, updating this as of Tuesday at 4 p.m., two more positive cases: one at the high school and one at Deer Run elementary.
The schools most affected include Deer Run Elementary School, Grove J. Tuttle Elementary School, East Haven Academy and East Haven High School, though every school has at least one case, or more.
On Monday at 4 p.m., according to data provided by the school district, there were 72 East Haven Academy students and staff in quarantine, 43 at Deer Run, 12 at Tuttle and 34 high school students and staff are under quarantine. Tuesday, two more letters were sent home to families announcing that another two new cases were reported.
Overbrook Early Learning Center, Ferrara and Momauguin elementary schools and Joseph Melillo Middle School have fared the best of all schools in the district with low case numbers and no students or staff in quarantine as of Monday.
School and health officials continue to maintain that COVID-19 is not being transmitted in the schools but rather from community spread being brought into schools and that schools are safe and will remain open.
Of the 2,788 enrolled in all schools, from prekindergarten to 12th grade, 2,182 signed on to full in-school learning and 606 chose remote instruction.
Meanwhile, Town Hall closed after two positive cases.
