Description

EAST HAVEN, CT — Deer Run Elementary School will close to in-person classes as a result of a staff shortage due to COVID-19 cases and quarantining. This brings the number of cases at the school to at least six and there are more than 60 in quarantine. In a letter obtained by Patch, schools superintendent Erica Forti said Wednesday that an additional two cases of COVID-19 at Deer Run School were reported. She said that while the people who tested positive will remain home in isolation, and any close contacts will be advised to quarantine for two weeks, there's not enough staff to safely hold classes at the school. "In consultation with the East Shore health department, the number of Deer Run staff required to quarantine as a result of these cases will not allow the school to safely and appropriately staff the classrooms at Deer Run," she wrote. "We will therefore be transitioning all Deer Run students to a full remote learning model beginning Thursday, November 12." She said that pending an OK from the health department, in-person classes will resume Nov. 30. 11_11_2020 Deer Run Positiv... by Ellyn Santiago > The school district began posting a COVID-19 tracker that has been updated daily at 4 pm., but by 5 p.m., there was no update.
