EAST HAVEN, CT — Another two cases of coronavirus were reported Thursday, this time at Momauguin School. And then, two hours later, another two cases; one at East Haven High School and one at Joseph Melillo Middle School.
To date, there are now 26 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in East Haven schools, 216 students and staff are in quarantine and Deer Run School has closed with remote learning for all students through at least Nov. 30.
On the school district COVID-19 case tracker, and in a letter from schools superintendent Erica Forti, it's noted that the latest cases at Momauguin have sent three classrooms, or 52 students and staff, into quarantine at home for two weeks. Those students and educators will work remotely.
Forti continues to maintain that the positive COVID-19 cases in the school district are, "...not a result of school based transmission of the virus," noting that the virus is being brought into schools. She and East Shore District Health Department director Michael Pascucilla have maintained that the schools are safe and that the virus is not borne in schools but rather walks through the door.
Late Wednesday, as Patch first reported, having had dozens of students and staff in quarantine, the district shuttered Deer Run until at least the end of the month.
The only schools to have almost completely avoided the disease are Overbrook Early Learning Center with one staff member testing positive and Ferrara School, with one positive student case.
