EAST HAVEN, CT —The letters from schools superintendent Erika Forti are as regular as clockwork. Almost daily for the past month-plus, she's signing the missives that let families know in which schools the most recent student and staff cases are being reported and which of those cases have meant classrooms must go into quarantine, meaning remote learning for two weeks. The most common refrain in each is that schools maintain that none of the cases are a result of in-school transmission. Officials know this through contact tracing conducted by the schools and East Haven District Health Department. In the latest update on its COVID-19 tracker on the district website, it's reported that just this week, there have been four cases of coronavirus. And Ferrara Elementary, Momauguin Elementary, Joseph Melillo Middle and East Haven High School, which has reported the most cases in the entire district since the begging of the school year, all have full classes in quarantine. Meanwhile, at Tuesday's board of education meeting, members approved a number of early-dismissal Fridays.
