EAST HAVEN, CT —State Sen.-elect Paul Cicarella (R-34) has been appointed by Sen. Minority Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) to serve as the leading Republican on the legislature's Housing and Veterans' Affairs Committees. He will also serve on the legislature's Appropriations and Public Safety and Security Committees. "I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of being Ranking Senator on both the Housing and Veterans' Affairs Committees," said Senator-Elect Cicarella, who won the seat vacated by former Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano in November due to retirement. "The Housing Committee will play an impactful role as we seek to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on our state's population. Access to housing is and will continue to be a key issue. Similarly, I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the Veterans' Affairs Committee to improve the quality of life for our state's heroes. Equally important, serving on the Appropriations Committee will enable me to speak out on behalf of middle class taxpayers during the state budget crafting process." Cicarella said he plans to use his extensive experience in Connecticut law enforcement to benefit the Public Safety and Security Committee, which has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, civil preparedness and homeland security, state police, municipal police training, fire marshals, the fire safety code, the state building code, and legalized gambling. "I am grateful for these legislative assignments, and I intend to be the voice of the people at our State Capitol," he said. The new appointments will take effect when the legislative session convenes on Jan. 6, 2021.
