EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman they said is a "package thief who stole packages from several houses" Thursday.
Police provided video surveillance footage of the woman "pulling up to houses in an early 2000's black or dark gray Nissan Maxima with a right rear spare tire."
Police said she is a white woman in her late 30s early 40s with shoulder-length brown hair. When her image was captured on video, police said, she was wearing a white pea coat, maroon pants, white sneakers and had a tan pocketbook. Police said she was "last seen getting into the passenger side of the Maxima before traveling westbound on Edward Street. "
"With an increase in home deliveries due to the approaching holidays and COVID-19 pandemic, package thefts are increasing," East Haven Police Department Capt. Joseph Murgo said. "We are urging our residents to outsmart thieves when getting packages delivered to their houses."
Murgo said that most shipping companies allow customers to include special instructions for package deliveries including leaving the package somewhere other than the front porch or stoop; a more secure area as well as myriad other suggestions for ensuring people get their packages.
Murgo said people can expect to see an increase in police patrols in and around residential neighborhoods in an effort to thwart package thefts.
"As always, we urge our residents to report any suspicious behavior in their neighborhood by calling 203-468-3820," he noted. "Anyone with information regarding this suspect's identity can also call the routine line, or they can reach out to us via Facebook."
