East Haven Man Carjacked, Legs Broken Trying To Stop Thief: Cops

EAST HAVEN, CT —New Haven police are looking for anyone with information about a reported carjacking of an East Haven man. According to New Haven police, at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, a 58-year-old man called 911 to report he was injured with two broken legs in a bank parking lot at 391 Foxon Boulevard. He told police he was carjacked. New Haven police officers and fire department EMTs got to the site of the former Wells Fargo Bank branch that still has two working ATM machines. Police found the man lying on the ground in the parking lot with serious injuries to his legs. Police investigators believe the victim was driving a gray 2013 GMC Terrain SUV that he'd parked near the ATM but with the keys in the SUV with the engine idling. While he was at the cash machine, police said a "thief" got in the man's SUV and as he tried to drive away, the man "ran and jumped on the driver side" to try and stop it but was thrown to the ground as the suspect took off in the SUV. Police said it's not yet known if the victim's leg injuries were the result of being dragged or run over. The stolen SUV with Connecticut license plate AK20696 was last seen traveling on Foxon Boulevard toward Middletown Avenue.
